Time x Art | DAEM Honors Jean-Michel Basquiat

The Brooklyn-based luxury watch brand DAEM is celebrating art. They have partnered with The Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat for three collaborative timepieces. The striking designs pay homage to an artist who helped shape the landscape of modern art. The timepieces incorporate Basquiat’s acclaimed works into its custom designs.

DAEM highlights Basquiat’s ‘85 ‘Now’s The Time’ artwork in the first watch. The imprecise vinyl references Jazz musician Charlie Parker’s song of the same name. The round shape allows it to be reworked into a traditional watch face. The timepiece features a patterned green, red, and brown strap. This was inspired by a portrait of Basquiat, where he wears a similarly colored shirt.

The second timepiece features Basquiat’s recognizable ‘Skull,’ showcasing the dichotomy of inner and outer experience. The band boasts phrases from the artist’s ‘Undiscovered Genius’ work. The work represents “elements of his cultural heritage as a social commentary on racial segregation and alienation.”

The third and final timepiece comes with Basquiat’s masterful ‘Warrior’ work. The timepiece boasts an isolated human form in a heroic presentation. A leather band plays well with the watch’s metallic gold-plated casing. Take a closer look at these three artistic and eye-catching timepieces in the images below.

All three of the Jean-Michel Basquiat x DAEM watches will release December 5 on DAEM’s website, don’t miss out. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more style, art, and timepieces coming soon.
