Art Meets Architecture | The Stairway House By Nendo

The creative minds at Nendo have made a name for themselves thanks to some incredibly unique modern designs. Known for crafting bold and functional contemporary structures, today they are back with a look at their latest. The  Stairway House is a newly-designed residence in Tokyo. The dwelling is defined by a continuous staircase which stretches from the outdoor area of the home all the way to the roof.

The home is planned for two families on separate levels. In a move to keep the households partially connected, the stairs run from exterior to the ground floor living spaces for an elderly couple. The stairs then stretch up to the remaining two levels occupied by a younger couple and their two children. The stairway also conceals the home’s functional elements while doubling as an indoor garden.

Most of the minimalist interior is closed off to add privacy, the south-facing facade is made of glass. This fills the rooms with natural light, connecting them seamlessly with the greenery on the outside. The home is sleek and minimal, unique and striking. It’s certainly one worth your time and attention.

Take a closer look at the Stairway House in the images below and find out more about the structure from Nendo right now. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more modern architecture coming very soon.
