Old Becomes New! The Wyss Container House

Over the past few years, the popularity of using storage containers has grown drastically. Today we get a look at a home that takes an older design and incorporates shipping containers for a new, modern approach that is unique and fitting. Dubbed the Wyss Container home, the structure was initially built in the 1960s. The home is situated on Washington‘s Mercer Island and was in need of an update. Instead of renovating the entire dwelling, Paul Michael Davis Architects wanted to do something a little different.

The home now features a new extension that replaces an existing garage with a multi-level volume. The space is now home to a new garage, a guest bedroom, and two flex rooms. The interior features a pair of repurposed shipping containers that enclose a mudroom, laundry room, and bathroom.

The remainder of the Wyss Container House was left mostly unchanged. However, the expansion offers a minimal contrast to the home’s original Pacific Northwest aesthetic. Unique and eye-catching, this is an intriguing use of shipping containers, which continues to grow in popularity.

Take a closer look at the Wyss Container House in the images below and find out more about the home from Paul Michael Davis Architects. While you’re at it, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more modern architecture coming very soon.
