A Closer Look | Every Sample Used On Kanye West’s ‘Jesus Is King’

In case you didn’t know, Kanye West dropped off his latest opus this weekend. The long-awaited return of Kanye West ended with the release of ‘Jesus Is King.’ We’ve spent the weekend diving deep into the album and getting quite familiar with the material provided. We’re big fans of the project, but today we take a different look at the project. Today we take a closer look at the samples used to created Kanye’s new opus, ‘Jesus Is King’. A YouTube video from user Bandstand just dropped a quick clip detailing every sample used on the project.

The video takes a look at the samples and how they were used. Some notable tracks and samples include “Follow God,” which uses the 1974 song “Can You Lose by Following God” by Whole Truth. On “Closed On Sundays,” the sample comes from “Martín Fierro” by Grupo Vocal Argentino, while “Water” samples a track called “Blow Job” by Bruce Haack. “God Is” features a sped-up vocal version of Rev. James Cleveland’s own rendition of the same title melody. Elsewhere “Jesus Is Lord” features the rich horns and pianos come from Claude Léveillée’s “Un Homme Dans La Nuit.” We’re always captivated by what the artists use to help them craft their sounds, and this project is full of unique samples.

Head over to Bandstand to find out more about the samples and let us know your favorite flips. In the meantime, be sure to check out the new album, ‘Jesus Is King’ if you haven’t already. You can also check out our favorites from the album in our latest weekly playlist, ‘A Curation of Sound.’
