As some of the first to gain access to the details behind the Herschel Supply Co. and Basquiat collaborative release, we couldn’t wait to see them. We were excited based on what the details, and now we get to share them with you. First things first, this collection deserves a follow-up.
The minute the boxes opened, it was obvious this drop was something special. Each piece is a one of a kind. The colors are vibrant and exciting. The prints are sharp and true to the art they represent. Not a detail is overlooked. The material quality is everything we’ve come to know and love from Herschel Supply Co. Even the retail hang tags arrive with an artistic consideration.
Unbelievably, a few pieces managed to stand out. While every piece had an impact and a place in the collection, we had a few favorites based on our initial assessments.

- The Nova Mid-Volume Backpack featured details from the Basquiat “Skull” work on the signature Herschel treated canvas. Detailed with exposed gold zippers and pulls, a high center classic woven label with an embroidered signature Basquiat crown. The bag includes a dark tonal fabric liner that makes this a great everyday bag that’s hard to overload.
- Another excellent backpack option we were digging hard was the HS6 Backpack. A lightweight polyester ripstop fabric is the perfect canvas to showcase elements of the masterpiece “Per Capita.” Seatbelt webbing back straps attached to the Triangle connector offer a barely-there feel without much restriction of movement. The zipper pulls are an exaggerated, large, easy to find loop tied to oversized exposed plastic zippers. The injection-molded Herschel Supply Co logo gives it a utilitarian vibe that just works.
- What is perhaps the biggest piece, was also a big hit with the crew. The “Skull” Novel Duffle is a real statement piece. The all-over screen print demands attention but conveys an elegance that may be too much for some. We are not those people. This bag hit hard and heavy. It’s ready for a weekend in Miami or another trip to the gym to chisel the human form. A signature shoe compartment is a great touch in case the sneakers aren’t as fresh as you’d like them to be.
