The LEGO Group has opened its new headquarters. The LEGO Campus is located in Billund, Denmark. The space was designed by C.F. Møller Architects and features approximately 580,000 sqft of space. The building accommodates around 2,000 employees who call the workplace a home away from home.
In a press release, LEGO stated: “Reflecting the LEGO Group values of ‘Imagination, Fun, Creativity, Caring, Learning, and Quality,’ the Campus has been designed to provide a playful, inclusive, and collaborative environment that enables employees to develop the best play experiences for children all over the world.”
The primary focus of the Campus is the “People House.” This hybrid space was built for employees and their families to gather during and after work. The space serves as a “place for relaxation, inspiration, and recharging.” The People House includes a fitness studio with a multipurpose court, a LEGO homestay for visitors, a creative workshop space, and more. There is even a cinema, communal kitchen, health clinic, park, and outdoor activity zones.
Sustainability was also a focus when constructing the campus. Several design elements were added to achieve a Gold-level LEED certification. The structure includes a special gypsum fiberboard which reportedly saved 650,000 kg of CO2 emissions during construction. 11,023 lbs of waste LEGO bricks were used for all of the outdoor furniture. There are solar panels on the roof of a parking facility, while a range of indigenous greenery can be found around the campus.
