All About Art! Robert Shore Releases ‘Yayoi Kusama’ Biography

Laurence King has been taking a deep dive into the practices of iconic artists as of late. From Jean-Michel Basquait to Jackson Pollock, the publisher has provided a unique look at some prolific artists. Today the publisher is back with its latest release providing a look behind “the queen of polka dots” with Yayoi Kusama by Robert Shore. The book is a pocket-sized biography that takes a look at the artist’s upbringing in Japan and much more.

The hardcover book spans 160 pages with 16 illustrations that show the artist throughout the different stages in her career. The book provides a look at her growth as an artist, as well as her profound mental health struggles and otherworldly persona. Laurence King described the book in a statement: “Often hailed as the ‘the world’s favorite artist’ and ‘the queen of polka dots,’ artist Yayoi Kusama’s backstory has always been veiled with mystery, whilst her iconic Infinity Rooms and enormous pumpkins sculptures have transfixed millions.”

They added, “Her signature bob, colourful outfits, and her love of polka dots is known around the world, yet how did she leave rural Japan and become the toast of both the art world and the fashion world?” Robert Shore has published a number of books, including Post-Photography: The Artist with a Camera (2014) and Beg, Steal and Borrow: Artists against Originality (2017).

Yayoi Kusama by Robert Shore will be available on April 22nd. Find out more on Laurence King Publishing’s website. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more art news coming very soon.
