All of the Views | The Whale Arctic Pavilion

Located just North of the Arctic circle rests the Norwegian island of Andøya lies Andenes. The destination is known for its high population of migrating whales makes it a prime location for viewing the mammals, providing a look at the creatures in their natural habitat. To celebrate and view these whales, Dorte Mandrup designed The Whale Arctic Pavilion. This stunning arctic attraction is located on the island’s rocky coastline.

The structure features a rolling roofline that integrates itself into the shore. It was designed to resemble one of the breaching giants, doing so with stunning attention to detail inside and out. The interior will be host to exhibition spaces, offices, a cafe, and more. Also included will be a store aimed at bringing awareness and protecting aquatic wildlife through art, science, and architecture. From the interior, visitors will be treated to dramatic views of the landscape along with glimpses of the passing whales.

The pavilion is a unique showcase of modern design, adding to the natural surroundings while supplying a safe place to take in the scenery. This breath-taking pavilion is expected to open in 2022. Until then, take a look at the renderings in the images below and find out more from Dorte Mandrup immediately. Keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more on ‘The Whale’ and more modern architecture coming very soon.
