Ancient Inspirations | The Lookout House

Sure, we’ve seen some unique modern architecture. However, we’ve never seen a modern structure situated at the base of a three-million-year-old volcano. The Lookout House was inspired by its ancient heritage, brought to life by Faulkner Architects. The dwelling sits on a slope enveloped by 15-foot boulders, manzanita, and a forest of pine and white fir trees.

The 20-inch-thick concrete walls are made from local sand and black steel. This series of elements forms a clean, modern exterior while panels of red-orange glass are reminiscent of the cooling magma that ran through the site in the past. The interior is adorned with wood ceilings and a California walnut screen, while lighting designed by Concept Lighting Lab adds warmth throughout.

The home is also host to expansive glazing, and terraces keep the home connected with the surrounding nature. There is even a ski slot that provides direct access to the neighboring slopes.

Take a closer look at this beautiful modern home in the images below and find out more about the Lookout House from Faulkner Architects right now. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more modern architecture coming very soon.
