Hauser & Wirth have taken over the news feed today. In doing so, they return with a limited edition print that includes Jenny Holzer’s iconic text artwork entitled ‘IN A DREAM.’ The artwork is part of the gallery’s final phase of Artists for New York. The campaign is a fundraising initiative that was founded last year in support of non-profit visual arts organizations in NYC that were impacted by the global pandemic.
Holzer’s IN A DREAM text was initially created in 1994 as a mixed-media on wood for her Truisms series. In the late 70s, the artist devised 300 aphorisms or slogans that reimagined common truths and cliches. Her Truisms were eventually seen on stickers, T-shirts, posters, and more.
The thought-provoking messages were created to sharpen people’s awareness. The new ‘IN A DREAM’ print is available in an edition of 35 with ten artist proofs from Hauser & Wirth. The gallery spoke about the print in a statement. It reads: “Celebrated for her inimitable use of language and interventions in the public sphere, Holzer creates a powerful tension between the realms of feeling and knowledge, with a practice that encompasses both individual and collective experiences of power and violence, vulnerability and tenderness.”
