Art For The People | Jeff Koons Reveals Paris Bataclan Tribute Sculpture

The artist Jeff Koons is back at it, returning with a new work of art that pays tribute to the victims of the 2015 terrorist attack at the Bataclan theatre. Mr. Koons, known for some of the most intriguing and eye-catching modern sculptures in the game, created something special. The Bouquet of Tulips is a beautiful and striking piece, a 40 feet tall sculpture that stands near the Le Petit Palais art gallery.

The flowers were created to symbolize love in his signature kitschy balloon style. Philosopher Yves Michaud described the work as “eleven colored anuses mounted on stems.” Columnist Eric Naulleau called it “dreadful,” while social media has also added to the criticism. Jeff Koons intended the work to be a display of U.S. solidarity with France. The artist stated: “I did, as a citizen in New York, experience 9/11 and the depression that hung over the city.” He also added that 80 percent of the proceeds from selling the copyright for the work will go to victims’ families. Art that cares!
