Art Imitating Life | Joan Cornellà Reveals Vinyl ‘SELFIE GUN’ Sculpture

Last month, Joan Cornellà released a bronze sculpture entitled ‘SELFIE GUN.’ The sculpture sold out quickly, and now, for the first time, the artist is releasing a limited-edition 10-inch vinyl figure. The ‘SELFIE GUN’ vinyl sculpture was made in collaboration with AllRightsReserved. The figure features the same suit-clad male holding a selfie stick mounted with a pistol. While seemingly simple, the artist uses satire to comment on a sinister and bleak side of human nature.

The cartoon subject engages in a situation that reflects socio-political issues. Cornellà explains: “I think we all laugh at misery. We must start from the idea that when we laugh, we laugh at someone or something. With empathy or not, there is always some degree of cruelty. In spite of that, I am aware that if one of my characters happened in real life, I would not laugh at all.”

The vinyl figure will be limited to just 1,000 pieces, each one comes painted and signed by the artist. They also cost considerably less than its bronze counterpart, coming in at $199 USD. The vinyl ‘SELFIE GUN’ figure will be sold exclusively on Ding Dong Takuhaibin’s website starting October 17th at 11 p.m. EST until October 18th at 11 p.m. EST.
