Art In The City | “Frida Kahlo 2020” Coming To Chicago

The Cleve Carney Museum of Art and the McAninch Arts Center are gearing up for something special in Chicago. In June 2020, they will host the largest Frida Kahlo exhibition in Chicago in over 40 years. The exhibition entitled “Friday Kahlo 2020” is a comprehensive showcase of the acclaimed Mexican artist. She has become an iconic figure of female empowerment, as well as Mexican pride. The exhibition will feature 26 original works by Kahlo.

The artworks come on loan from the Museo Dolores Olmedo in Mexico City. The collection includes oil paintings and works on paper which span the artist’s life. The works provide a look into the artist’s childhood and personal struggles. Along with the 26-piece collection is an immersive experience that features a multimedia timeline of the artist’s life. There is also a video presentation and reproductions of Kahlo’s clothing. The “poetry garden” was designed by the Ball Horticultural Company, offering a look into ’s life.

In doing so, it presents her work in a variety of different contexts. These details help to frame the personal events and circumstances that led to her becoming one of the most significant painters of the 20th century. Tickets for “Frida Kahlo 2020” will go on sale December 10 on Cleve Carney Museum of Art’s website. The exhibition will be on view from June 1 to August 31, 2020.
