Art On Display | Jean Jullien’s “PETRICHOR” Exhibition

After showcasing a selection of works that pay homage to his childhood town, Jean Jullien is back at it yet again. This time around, he takes his talents to the ALICE Gallery in Brussels for a new exhibition. Dubbed “PETRICHOR,” the exhibition’s title refers to the smell that accompanies rain after a period of dryness. It’s also the basis of Jullien’s new works, recalling memories of contentment, nature, and more. The French artist provides natural landscapes with minimalist subjects.

The use of color makes for a refined aesthetic removed of deep details. The depictions of brilliant blue bodies of water and sandy landscapes are a nice contrast. The paintings evoke specific smells associated, providing a unique experience. A highlight of the exhibition is a painted five-panel wall divider showcasing a boat on the water at sunset. The colorful work is bold with color, providing a pink and orange sky that is simply breath-taking. Jullien wrote via Instagram, “And that’s what this show is about: trying to capture moments that I found beautiful.”

Take a look at select works from “PETRICHOR” in the gallery below. The exhibition is on display from now until January 11, 2020. Find out more about the exhibition from the ALICE gallery and stay tuned with The Culture Curators for more from the art department coming soon.
