Art on Display! Louise Bonnet Opens ‘VAGABOND’ Exhibition In Los Angeles

Los Angeles-based, Switzerland-born painter Louise Bonnet is currently hosting her third solo exhibition at Nino Mier Gallery. The new showcase features seven new oil paintings, which have debuted at the gallery. Each of her recent paintings were completed one year into quarantine and were inspired by a film called Vagabond.

The artist’s work features a unique appeal that blends the beauty and the grotesque. The art features exaggerated proportions and distorted features, while vivid-yet-sparse backgrounds add their own appeal. The seven new oil paintings mentioned above feature distinct scenes that explore a woman’s desire to be alone and to “remain inaccessible in a world that expects women to be available and accommodating.”

Interior with Orange Bed (2021) and Red Interior with Seated Figure (2021) features a large figure holding her hands together. Bathers (2021) boasts four headless figures with their limbs in a dark blue body of water. Finally, Landscape with Fig Leaves (2021) features a figure staring over a vast ocean. Each figure is equipped with rubbery flesh that adds even more depth and allure to each piece.

Louise Bonnet’s VAGABOND is on display now and will remain open at the Nino Mier Gallery in Los Angeles until June 19th. To make a reservation visit the gallery’s website. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more art news and art exhibitions coming very soon.
