Art On View! “Marbre, Porcelaine, LEGO,” An Exhibition by Ai Weiwei

The one and only, Ai Weiwei, is back. The artist recently unveiled his latest exhibition, titled “Marbre, Porcelaine, LEGO.” The showcase is currently on view at the Galerie Max Hetzler in Paris. The solo show is the artist’s second with Max Hetzler, offering a selection of international iconography that reflects the artist’s feelings on political activism.

The exhibition features an altered version of the Saudi Arabian flag, alluding to the murder of journalist Jamal Kashoggi. Elsewhere guests will find a display of LEGO bricks that reference the German rescue vessel SeaWatch. Each item confirms Weiwei’s knowledge of the history of these events. The collection even includes Chinese porcelain vases, which were made by the craftspeople of Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, a center of porcelain production in China.

The blue-and-white vases are host to six motifs that provide a look into the refugee experience. These pieces are titled: War, Ruins, Journey, Crossing the Sea, Refugee Camps, Demonstrations. The showcase is currently on view until August 7th.

Find out more information about the exhibit from Galerie Max Hetzler and plan your visit accordingly. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more from the world of art coming very soon.
