The good folks over at Nike know a few things in terms of style and sports. Today they have announced a colorful playground in Tokyo for the public. The space is called “TOKYO SPORT PLAYGROUND SPORT x ART.” The location will be one of several public sports-friendly playgrounds in the city.
The area includes a running track that measures at approximately 280 meters. Elsewhere we see a colorful basketball court and a skatepark, a roundabout, and open spaces. The playground’s design was inspired by six of Nike Japan’s silhouettes. Those include the Cortez Track, Waffle Racer, ACG Adventure, and Air Raid.
The sections of the park are named after the sneakers while boasting recycled Nike Grind Surfacing throughout. This durable cushioning material is made from used Nike shoes and is incorporated into the playground’s flooring for an eco-friendly approach.
Nike Japan’s “TOKYO SPORT PLAYGROUND SPORT x ART” is set to open on October 10th in Toyosu, Tokyo. Take a closer look at this creative, colorful park in the images below and find out more from Nike. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more from the intersection of art and sports.
