Looking to elevate your Summer style with a dose of creativity? The good folks over at Dr. Martens are back with another new collaboration that is sure to offer some eye-catching style to your life. After pairing up with PLEASURES on a new collection last month, Dr. Martens returns with something unique. They have revamped the rugged 1460 and 1461 silhouettes, immortalizing Jean-Michel Basquiat in the process.
The two designs pay homage to the artist with a stylish nod, offering a classic look and an iconic aesthetic. The 1460 comes rocking Basquait’s cover art for Beat Bop, a single by American hip-hop artists Rammellzee and K-Rob. The art is a departure from the artist’s typical pieces, drawing the art only in black and white.
The motif is consistent with the artist’s aesthetic with chaotic graffiti-like imagery throughout. We see details including bones, crowns, an explosion with the word “BANG!” and much more. The artwork is emblazoned along the upper body of the boots, accented by thick yellow stitching.
The 1461 embodies a more colorful approach, incorporating his Dustheads, 1982. This particular painting sold for a record-breaking $48.8 million USD at Christie’s New York in 2013. The shoe’s heel and upper are black with a minimal approach. The tonal top-stitching brings out the artwork which is seen on the tongue and forefoot. The shoe also features a tall woven heel pull and a crown motif at the top of the backstay.
