Back At It | Steve McQueen’s Retrospective To Reopen At Tate

In February, the Tate Modern in London opened a retrospective exhibition with Steve McQueen. However, the museum was forced to close early when the gallery went into lockdown. Now the gallery has reopened, and the Tate has confirmed that the exhibition will reopen as well. This news means that visitors will have the chance to see the show, which spans 20 years of the artist’s career.

The exhibition has also been extended to run through September 6th, 2020. The exhibit features 14 works, including photography, film, and sculpture. The retrospective provides a unique look at 20 years of McQueen’s work, offering the most comprehensive survey of his work. McQueen’s art explores issues of representation, identity, and history.

McQueen spoke about the reopening recently. The artist stated: “I remember my first school trip to Tate when I was an impressionable 8-year-old, which was really the moment I gained an understanding that anything is possible.” He went on to say, “As we all gradually emerge from lockdown, and in some ways begin to see the world anew, I hope visitors experience that same sense of possibility.”

For those interested in visiting the exhibition, you will be required to wear face coverings, and visitor numbers will be restricted. Steve McQueen at Tate Modern opens Friday, August 7th, and more information on the exhibition can be found on the Tate website. Find out more and plan your visit asap. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for much more from the art department coming very soon.
