Celebrating An Icon | NBA Renames The All-Star Game MVP Award To Honor Kobe Bryant

In case you missed it, this weekend was NBA All-Star Weekend. The festivities took over Chicago, where the league celebrated their best and also paid homage to Kobe Bryant. In a Saturday NBA All-Star Weekend press conference, NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced that the All-Star MVP Award would be renamed in honor of the late, great Kobe Bryant.

The award is now known as the “Kobe Bryant MVP Award.” Silver then went on to list some of Bryant’s accolades in All-Star history. Kobe took home 4 MVP awards, a Slam Dunk Award, making 18 consecutive All-Star appearances. He’s also the youngest All-Star, being selected at just 19 years old. The Commissioner went on to add, “He always relished the opportunity to compete with the best of the best and perform at the highest level for millions of fans around the world.”

Elsewhere, the late NBA commissioner David Stern‘s photo will be printed next to Kobe’s on the back of all media credentials for 2020. This is just the beginning of much more to come from the league and the world. Good looking out NBA! Stay tuned with The Culture Curators for more from NBA and more sports news coming very soon.
