Coming Soon | KAWS Releases ‘Companionship in the Age of Loneliness’ Book

With all the attention focused on the 2019 iteration of Art Basel, the art world is focused right now. Today the one and only, KAWS, returns, doing so by launching a limited edition book. The book is titled Companionship in the Age of Loneliness, made in collaboration with NGV Design Store. The book celebrates his exhibition of the same name at the National Gallery of Victoria. Coming in with 350 pages, the hardback publication presents over 200 images of the artist’s work. The book also includes new text by acclaimed author Margaret Atwood and a biographical essay by NGV Senior Curator of Contemporary Art, Dr. Simon Maidment.

KAWS has made quite a name for himself in the contemporary art world. His murals, sculptures, and more offer a distinct visual language and iconic characters. His beloved BFF and COMPANION figures have become incredibly popular all around the world. The book acts as a reminder that “we need one another and that life should be lived as compassionately as possible to combat this ‘Age of Loneliness,’ in the face of fear and hatred.” The publication also features documentation of this career-survey exhibition in Melbourne, along with his works in Mount Fuji, Japan, and elsewhere. This all comes together for a comprehensive overview of the artist’s work. There are pages are dedicated to KAWS’s largest sculpture to date, as well as his vinyl figures and so much more.

The book retails for around $50 USD, and it’s available to purchase now on NGV Design Store’s website. Take an inside look at the book in the images and pick yours up today. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for much more from the art department coming very soon.
