Art in Ocala has grown exponentially in the past several years. These days things are moving forward at an incredible rate. This weekend marks another step forward for the local art scene as Seth Benzel will host the opening reception for is ‘Abstract Spain Project’ exhibition. The showcase features paintings from Mr. Benzel himself, which will be displayed at his 8th Ave Gallery in Ocala, Florida.
For anyone unfamiliar with his work, Seth is an international artist who calls Ocala home. We’ve gotten more familiar with him thanks to his work at Art House 2.0 and 8th Ave Gallery as well. We had the chance to speak with the artist ahead of ‘The Abstract Spain Project’s’ opening reception, learning more about his past work and his process.

This exhibition is the third patron sponsored travel series of Mr. Benzel’s career as an artist. Previous opportunities have taken him across the globe from Dubai to Los Angeles. Seth stated: “Now that I have established my base here in Ocala at 8th Ave. Gallery. It is my hope that I can establish a local connection to future projects starting this summer.”
He then spoke about the process for his exhibitions and the inspiration behind his work. Influenced by traveling, culture, and art from across the globe, Mr. Benzel said: “The process starts by fundraising where supporters are offered a chance to secure a painting based on my future travels.” The artwork is completed upon his return, and his patrons are invited to follow his adventures.
Seth uses Facebook and Instagram to keep them included in his adventures while offering the chance to provide feedback along the way. Seth added: “Once the painting is completed, then it is approved and delivered.” His projects are based on a passion for art, travel, and culture, while also providing an “opportunity to actively collect artwork.”
The ‘Abstract Spain Project’ exhibition will officially open on February 22nd, that’s this Saturday, from 6 PM-10 PM. Our guy Just Joel will be providing the sounds, so expect an incredible vibe along with some exceptional art. The show itself will be on display from February 22nd through April 4th.
