Devin Troy Strother Opens “Durag Activities” Exhibition

Los Angeles-based artist Devin Troy Strother has taken his show on the road. The artist recently unveiled a new solo exhibition at Over the Influence in Bangkok. The exhibition is entitled “Durag Activities,” which references Baby Keem’s track of the same name. The artist presents a series of new paintings that include art history and the subversion of racial stereotypes.

The artist released a statement regarding the exhibition. Strother stated: “I used this title when imagining a group of men going undercover to seek vengeance upon a group whose sole purpose was to eradicate my brothers and sisters. In going undercover and having to wear those awfully stupid ass white hoods on their heads, I imagined my brothers would wear a durag on top of their heads to protect that precious black hair and skin from the evil white linens.”

Take a closer look at a few standout pieces in the images and find out more about the showcase from OTI Bangkok. “Durag Activities” will be on display until June 25th. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more art news, exhibitions, and art releases coming soon.
