Elevating Power | The Lotus Evija

Lotus has been crafting iconic and powerful vehicles since their inception back in 1948. In keeping with modern times, Lotus returns. The hypercar project referred to as “Type 130” around the Lotus campus now has a real name. The British automaker has unveiled the Lotus Evija as their entry to the Hypercar realm, blowing straight past the supercar category.

While it may start with Lotus’s favorite letter, E (think Elise, Esprit, and Europa, among others), it’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen from them before. Even in the small hypercar circle, the Evija is something different itself. The combustion engine is no more. Instead, the Evija uses 4 electric motors to throw 2,000PS to the wheels of the 1,680kg rocket ship. CEO of Lotus, Phil Popham, comments: “The Lotus Evija is a car like no other. It will re-establish our brand in the hearts and minds of sports car fans and on the global automotive stage. It will also pave the way for further visionary models.”

Only 130 units are to be released. The Lotus Evija features an ultra-lightweight carbon fiber monocoque, a full-charge time of 9 minutes, has a driving range of up to 250 miles, and an extensive use of carbon fiber details. Priced at around £1.7 million GBP (approximately $2.1 million USD) each Evija is hand-built at Lotus’ home in Hethel, UK. As the 2020 release date approaches, test drives and the reviews are expected to start soon. Get familiar with the Lotus Evija in the images!
