Downtown Ocala has been abuzz over the past few months. A lot of that has had to do with the exceptional programming at Ocala’s very own, Marion Theatre. With April right around the corner today, we get a look at the full roster of films slated to arrive next month.
This month guests will be able to experience the 1941 Oscar Award-winning film Citizen Kane in Ocala’s historic Marion Theatre. The movie will be a part of the Classics and Cocktails series, which pairs a signature cocktail with an iconic film. This time, the signature cocktail will be “The Rosebud,” and it will be available at each showing.
April at the Marion is generously sponsored by the City of Ocala Water Resources Department. Throughout the month, guests will enjoy films that bring attention to Water Conservation Month and highlight Florida’s natural resources. On April 1st and April 10th, admission is free to the 2017 documentary Chasing Corral. The film takes a look into the will and wisdom of an ad man, a self-proclaimed coral nerd, top-notch camera designers, and renowned marine biologists as they invent the first time-lapse camera to record bleaching events as they happen. The film provides a look at breathtaking photography, nail-biting suspense, and uncanny emotion.
On Thursday, April 25th at 5:30 p.m., enjoy free popcorn, the 2003 film Freaky Friday, and support Friends of the Ocala Public Library. Guest are encouraged to bring a gently used book that can be donated to the Book Market, become a friend of the Ocala Public Library, or make a cash donation. The series is a part of the Duke Energy Sponsorship to Create Powerful Communities at the Marion Theatre.
The rest of the month is filled with incredible films. On the docket are instant classics such as Forrest Gump, Kill Bill: Vol. 1, Pretty Woman, and more. Other films we’d highly suggest checking out include the comedy Bridesmaids, Honey I Shrunk The Kids, and of course, Freaky Friday. Oh, and don’t let us forget Tarzan The Ape Man, which will be playing throughout the entire month.
