Exhibiting Excellence! Derrick Adams’ “The Last Resort” Exhibition

The one and only Derrick Adams has opened his new exhibition. The Baltimore-born, Brooklyn-based artist recently presented his latest “The Last Resort” exhibition. He has teamed up with Chicago’s Rhona Hoffman Gallery for his fourth show in the space, offering a colorful look at Black leisure. The display also completes Adams’ Floater series, which kicked off back in 2015.

The exhibit includes a range of paintings and watercolors that provide a look into the leisurely side of life. The press release from the Rhona Hoffman Gallery flawlessly describes the exhibit. It reads: “The Last Resort” “renew[s] Adams’ signature use of exuberant color blocking figuration to introduce the idle time of Black bodies in compositions that are joyous, abundant, and radical in their refusal of tragedy.”

Each work of art consists of families or individuals enjoying the good life. We see folks enjoying the pool while joined by floating toys such as flamingos, swans, and more. The show’s title comes from a retreat that Adams has founded in his native Baltimore that’s set to open in 2022. Take a closer look at a few select pieces from “The Last Resort” in the images.

The exhibition will be on display at the Rhona Hoffman Gallery until March 27th. Head over to the gallery’s website to find out more right now. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more art exhibits, art news, and art drops coming soon.
