Expanding Experiments! SpaceX Has Deployed Over 1,000 Starlink Satellites

The creative minds over at SpaceX are back in the news feed. As they continue to push space travel and exploration into the future, SpaceX is back with some big news. The word comes down today that the company has now launched more than 1,000 satellites into orbit for. According to the new filing from Elon Musk‘s company, the milestone was recently reached when it sent a few Starlink satellites up into space earlier this month.

The goal of the Starlink project is to provide better and more reliable high-speed internet.  A public beta test for the service was announced back in June and began later in October. SpaceX also said that it has more than 10,000 users via its $99 USD monthly plan. While 1,000 satellites may sound like a lot, SpaceX has been cleared by the Federal Communications Commission to launch a whopping 11,943 satellites. The company’s goal is to have 4,425 of them in orbit and operating by 2024. The company says that its network is “meeting and exceeding 100/20 megabits per second (“Mbps”) throughput to individual users” with latencies “at or below 31 milliseconds.”

Next up for Starlink is seeking designation as an “Eligible Telecommunications Carrier.” This will provide access to millions of dollars granted from the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund. Head over to SpaceX to find out more about the Starlink program. While you’re at it, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for much more from the tech sector coming very soon.
