FKA Twigs – ‘CAPRISONGS’ (Mixtape)

The one and only FKA Twigs is back. The artist made her return over the weekend, dropping off a brand new “mixtape” for our listening pleasures. Entitled ‘CAPRISONGS,’ the project is kind of a follow-up to 2019’s MAGDALENE, and it’s one we wouldn’t suggest sleeping on. During a recent interview with Zane Lowe, FKA Twigs stated: “I think when I was in lockdown after the initial, I mean the beginning of lockdown, I personally found quite traumatic because it really made me stop. I just really wanted to make music that my friends would listen to and that I could connect with people over.”

She went on to open up about the idea of the project, adding, “I guess that’s where the idea came from that I just wanted to make music to get ready to. I think I was craving going out and going dancing.” Twigs further stated: “I always like cringe a little bit when I think of like art as therapy. I don’t know why. Maybe I need to look at that, but yeah, I don’t know. I think I just wanted to make work that was for my friends, and I recorded all of my friends talking, and whenever people were saying interesting things, when we were allowed to be together in lockdown, I would record these little conversations to reflect on later, with them knowing obviously, to reflect on later and they ended up weaving itself into the music and into the story. I just figured I’ve got so many inspirational, amazing people around me that if anyone is ever feeling lonely, they can just borrow my friends and borrow my little community and hopefully listen to it.”

The project includes seventeen tracks, including a slew of standouts. Along the way, she is joined by the likes of The Weeknd, Jorja Smith, Rema, and others. A few notable tracks worth diving into include “tears in the club” with The Weeknd, “lightbeamers,” “jealousy” featuring Rema, and “Careless” with Daniel Caesar.

FKA Twigs never lets us down, and she certainly doesn’t start with this one. Check out ‘CAPRISONGS’ in the stream below and look for more from FKA Twigs coming very soon. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for all the best new music.
