The one and only Elon Musk is back in the news. Today Elon returns as TIME Magazine‘s inaugural “Person of the Year” for 2021. Mr. Musk has pioneered innovation and has led the development of electric vehicles through Tesla. We can’t forget his foray into space exploration through SpaceX, his work through Neuralink, or even the impact of urban restructuring through The Boring Company.
Time begins the announcement letter with a brief introduction, stating: “The richest man in the world does not own a house and has recently been selling off his fortune. He tosses satellites into orbit and harnesses the sun; he drives a car he created that uses no gas and barely needs a driver. With a flick of his finger, the stock market soars or swoons. An army of devotees hangs on his every utterance. He dreams of Mars as he bestrides Earth, square-jawed and indomitable. Lately, Elon Musk also likes to live-tweet his poops.”
According to TIME MAGAZINE, the honor is bestowed to somebody “who affected the news or our lives the most, for better, or worse. Musk was chosen “for creating solutions to an existential crisis, for embodying the possibilities and the perils of the age of tech titans, and for driving society’s most daring and disruptive transformations.”
The magazine’s editor-in-chief, Edward Felsenthal, further added, “Person of the Year is a marker of influence, and few individuals have had more influence than Musk on life on Earth, and potentially life off Earth, too.” Other announcements by TIME magazine include Olivia Rodrigo as its “Entertainer of the Year,” U.S.A. gymnast Simone Biles as “Athlete of the Year,” and COVID-19 vaccine scientists Kizzmekia Corbett, Barney Graham, Katalin Kariko, and Drew Weissman as “Heroes of the Year.” Last year’s title for “Person of the Year” was jointly given to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
