Future Forms | Mercedes-Benz Reveals the VISION AVTR Concept

Every year around this time we get a look at the most unique and exciting consumer electronics set to arrive soon. With CES 2020 taking place recently, Mercedes-Benz decided to provide a glimpse into the future with its latest concept car. Today we get our first look at the Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR Concept. The ride was on display at CES 2020, providing a look into the future of automotive electronics and design. The ride draws inspiration from the film Avatar, pulling from the aesthetic and overall synopsis of the film. The VISION AVTR or ADVANCED VEHICLE TRANSFORMATION is an attempt to merge human and machine together with nature. This results in a symbiotic relationship through innovative design, interactivity, and sustainability.

The chassis is based on a “One Bow” structure, giving the sleek and highly aerodynamic shell. The transparent doors a bubble-like shape adds to its futuristic appeal while keeping things sharp and eye-catching. The car has light strips to accent and gives function to both the posterior and tires. This adds to its modern charm, while the rear features segregated panels that raise and lower “organically.” The interior is host to a single panel display while offering easy functionality in the process. A projected menu allows the user to go through menus with a raising, shift, and closing of a hand.

There is also a center-mounted control module; however, it gives the user a physical “merge” that would allow for acceleration, deceleration, and even steering. The AVTR also features a new graphene-based battery cell technology, creating a fully recyclable battery that uses no waste. The vehicle was unveiled during CES 2020 during Daimler’s keynote. The ride was brought out before the director of Avatar himself, James Cameron, spoke on the collaboration.
