If you were one of the few that were fortunate enough to score a Sony Playstation 5, chances are you’ve played it all, and you’re dying for the next big advancement. Before you finish that post on Marketplace, keep reading. Sony has finally given some insight into its upcoming next-generation VR headset for the PS5 in a blog post from Hideaki Nishino. While any news is good news, the long-awaited release isn’t due this year, but the details are pretty exciting.
Sharper resolution, a wider field of view, and a more direct connection are some of the headliners. The announcement stated a single cord will connect the VR headset to the PS5 “to simplify setup and improve ease of use while enabling a high-fidelity visual experience.” Details about controllers and some of the upcoming innovations made their way into the statement as well. Nishino said, “[It] will incorporate some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller, along with a focus on great ergonomics.”
VR Headset For PS5
Sony CEO Jim Ryan opened up a bit more about the future of the VR system as well. According to Ryan, distribution of development kits for the headset will begin soon, and the goal is to improve on some go the first-gen headset’s more cumbersome limitations. I can assume the multiple cords and camera adapter needed to use the current rig have major bullet points on the chopping list. It’s hard to believe the first-ten headset came out for PS4 in 2016 and has remained virtually unchanged since then.
“Generational leaps allows you to sweep up the advances in technology that have taken place,” Ryan said. “Given this was our first foray into virtual reality, it gives us a chance to apply lessons learned.”
In the meantime, Sony continues to release some pretty rad titles for the VR system and continues to develop new titles as well. Keep an eye on the #tech section for updates on the future of gaming consumer electronics.
