Gang Starr – ‘One of the Best Yet’

Way back in 2003 was the last time we got a new album from Gang Starr. While it’s been over fifteen years, the duo is back. Back in September, DJ Premier took to his social media accounts to tease a new album from Gang Starr. After a few teasers, we got the first single from the project, a heater entitled “Family & Loyalty” with J. Cole. Now the fellas are back, this time around serving up an impressive new opus entitled ‘One of the Best Yet.’

The album comes loaded up with sixteen tracks, including the project’s second single “Bad Name.” The legendary duo put together quite an impressive collection, showcasing their legendary talents in the process. Along the way, DJ Premier and Guru are joined by a barrage of incredible artists. The album includes features from Talib Kweli, Ne-Yo, Nitty Scott, Q-Tip, Royce 5’9, Big Shug, Freddie Foxxx, and Group Home. The project sounds classic, nostalgic, and gritty while offering a showcase of the legendary duo’s sounds and talents. Standout singles include “Lights Out” with M.O.P., “Hit Man” with Q-Tip, “So Many Rappers,” “Bring It Back Here,” and “Bless the Mic.”

Do yourself a favor and press play on this one immediately. Check out the new album in the stream below and look for more new music coming very soon. While you’re at it, be sure to check out the latest installment of our weekly playlist, ‘A Curation of Sound.’
