On Tuesday, November 5th, USWNT co-captain Alex Morgan, together with POWERADE and the U.S. Soccer Foundation, unveiled a new soccer field in Gardena, CA. The pitch was created in order to give the next generation of footballers more access to the sport. The soccer field comes after POWERADE committed to building three mini-pitches in key markets throughout the U.S. POWERADE is also the official sports drink of the U.S. Women’s National Team, recently announcing its partnership with the U.S. Soccer Foundation.
Each location of the mini-pitches will be located in the home markets and named after the brand’s Power Players. The fields will e named after stars Alex Morgan, Kelley O’Hara, and Crystal Dunn. Each field was created to transform underutilized spaces into state-of-the-art soccer fields. The goal is to provide teen players with nearly 2,000+ extra hours of playing time in safe spaces. Alex Morgan unveiled the first POWERADE mini-pitch, part of the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Safe Places to Play program.
These fields can be used by organizations to provide programming specifically for young girls and provide inclusive environments for unstructured play. The mini-pitches feature lights to increase the number of hours the space can be used, benches to watch the play unfold, lockable storage for equipment, and a comprehensive, long-term warranty to eliminate maintenance costs.
