Iconic Inspiration! The Nike Dunk Low “Jackie Robinson”

On April 15th, 1947, Jackie Robinson became the first African American baseball player to ever play for the MLB. He was an immediate success on the field and selected as Rookie of the Year before being voted as the league MVP two years later. The star then cemented his place in history by leading the Dodgers to six league championships and a World Series victory. Nike returns with a special edition Dunk Low to honor the 75th-anniversary of Robinson’s debut.

The Dunk Low “Jackie Robinson” features an array of unique details and special commemorative elements that will surely catch your attention. The sneakers feature Dodgers Blue overlays over a white base. The insoles display the quote, “I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me. All I ask is that you respect me as a human being.”

Other noteworthy details include Robinson’s #42 printed on the lateral heel, and a logo that reads “75 Years Breaking Barriers” is found on the tongue tab. The Swoosh is adorned in felt along the laterals and in embroidery on the toe box, and laces arrive in baseball stitching patterns. The sneakers are then finished off with a white midsole and black rubber outsoles for good measure.

Take a closer look at this stunning commemorative design in the images and look for the sneakers to arrive this April at Nike’s website and select retailers. Do yourself a favor and keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more great footwear and sneakers coming very soon.
