Jay Electronica – ‘A Written Testimony’

Around a decade ago, Jay Electronica signed with Roc Nation. While rap fans around the world were hyped about the possibilities, nothing really came to fruition at first. Then we started to get some new music here and there from the lyricist, including guest features and new singles. Well, today, after ten years since signing with Roc Nation, Jay Electronica has served up his opus, ‘A Written Testimony.’ The album was initially rumored to drop March 17th/18th, though it has arrived a bit earlier than expected.

The wordsmith had scheduled a series of listening sessions throughout the country, but the COVID-19 pandemic kept things from happening. Instead, the wordsmith live-streamed the album for everyone to hear for the first time before unleashing it on streaming platforms. The project includes ten new tracks and finds Jay-Z guest featuring on all but two tracks. Production comes from the likes of Alchemist, No I.D., Swizz Beatz, Hit-Boy, and several by Jay Elect himself. Along the way, Jay unleashes a bevy of bars and some excellent new material. Some of our favorite standouts include “Ghost of Soulja Slim” with Jay-Z, “The Blinding” with Jay-Z & Travis Scott, and “Flux Capacitor” featuring Jay-Z.

We’ve been waiting a long time on this one, and it’s certainly one worth your time and attention. Do yourself a favor and check out the new album ‘A Written Testimony’ in the stream below and look for more new music coming very soon. While you’re at it, be sure to check out the latest installment of our weekly playlist, ‘A Curation of Sound.’
