LACMA Presents “City of Cinema: Paris 1850–1907”

Paris was the city in which cinema first became popular. In celebration of cinema, the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art opened a new exhibition exploring film from its early days to the 20th-century. “City of Cinema: Paris 1850–1907” was made in conjunction with the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.

The exhibition includes paintings, sculptures, posters, prints, photography, and film. The goal is to reflect a range of artistic experiments that resulted in cinema as a mass medium. The showcase places special attention on 19th-century Parisian visual culture, examining the way pioneers developed a new way to observe images. The exhibition is currently on view at LACMA until July 10th.

For those who can’t make it to LA, check out a preview of the exhibition in the video below. For more information, check out LACMA’s website immediately. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more art exhibitions and art news coming very soon.
