Life In The Future | Toyota’s “Prototype City of the Future”

While many of us know Toyota for being one of the most reliable automakers on the planet, they are expanding into new territory. The Japanese automaker is building a futuristic city dubbed the “Woven City.” The space is described as a “prototype city of the future,” constructed and brought to life with the help of Danish architect Bjarke Ingels. The “Woven City,” as it is known,” will be capable of housing 2,000 of the company’s employees and their families.

The city will be located at the foot of Mount Fuji, while powered by Toyota’s own hydrogen fuel cell technology. The area is slated to feature an array of technological gadgets developed by the company. These will include but are not limited to, automated self-driving vehicles, in-home robots, and more. The city will also boast sensor-based artificial intelligence. This aims to “take care of basic needs and enhance daily life, creating an opportunity to deploy connected technology with integrity and trust, securely and positively.” Akio Toyoda, president of Toyota, spoke about the city. He stated: “We welcome all those inspired to improve the way we live in the future, to take advantage of this unique research ecosystem and join us in our quest to create an ever-better way of life and mobility for all.”

Take a look at the “Prototype City of the Future” in the video below, while Toyota aims to begin construction in 2021. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more from the future of tech and design coming soon.
