The art community of #OurOcala continues to grow. With more talent comes more competition (friendly, of course; kinda). On Saturday, May 7th, 8th Ave. Gallery will host a battle for art supremacy. Battle of the Brushes will feature nine local artists going head to head for the title, and the winner will be chosen by you, the people.
Teddy Sykes, Mel Fiorentino, Justin Alsedek, Chris Hershberger, Jordan Shapot, Drake Arnold, Ryan Neumann, Andrew Raymond, and Jade Amber will start and finish a 4ft x 4ft painting live. Guests are invited to vote for their favorite piece throughout the event. At 9 pm, the painting will commence, and a winner will be chosen. The event is sure to be a unique experience, including live music, great drinks, and outstanding art.
Proceeds will benefit two of Ocala’s art non-profits, the Marion Cultural Alliance (MCA) and the Magnolia Art Xchange (MAX). There will be exclusive event merch, beer from Infinite Ale Works, wine, and other non-alcoholic beverages provided by the David and Lisa Midgett Foundation.
Painting begins at 2:00 pm and ends at 9:00. The winner will be announced around 9:30, and then the celebration begins. Glizzy Gillespie, Sam Carlson, and his borderline brothers, and Just Joel will provide the sounds throughout the day, while each artist will have art on display in the main gallery.
