Lucky Daye – Mercy Mercy Me (Cover)

The one and only Lucky Daye is back. The artist returned this past Friday with something new and special, putting together a smooth cover to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Marvin Gaye’s classic album What’s Going On. Spotify teamed with Lucky Daye for a special edition of Spotify Singles. The crooner showed off a live version of his Painted track “Floods” but also provided a stunning cover of “Mercy Mercy Me.”

The track was made popular by Marvin Gaye on his What’s Going On album, and Lucky refreshes the track while staying true to the original. The singer/songwriter spoke about the honor of covering the track. He stated: “[Recording ‘Mercy Mercy Me’] was so different because I had to listen to everything and catch every little detail he [Marvin Gaye] did because I didn’t wanna take his song to a lower standard, but also wanted to infuse it with my own flavor.” The track’s smooth backdrop provides Lucky with a perfect home to showcase his talents. He floats upon the instrumental like a seasoned veteran, showing off his range and his vocal prowess in the process. This man never disappoints, and he certainly doesn’t start with this one.

Check out the cover of “Mercy Mercy Me” in the stream below and look for much more from Lucky Daye. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for all the best new music coming soon.
