Making Changes | Instagram Cracks Down on “Fake News”

As we all know, Instagram is always on the pursuit of ways to make the user experience a little better. Today the social media giant is in the news as they recently launched a flagging tool designed to combat “fake news”. The tool launched first in the US and will alert a group of third-party fact-checkers when false information is flagged. Users can flag content by tapping the three-dot menu in the top-right corner. Upon getting options hit “Report” and cite “It’s inappropriate” with a “False information” note.

If a post is deemed to be misinformation, it may face removal from the explore page or removed altogether. Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri took to Twitter to speak about the launch. He noted, “Misinformation is an issue I’ve personally spent a lot of time on. I’m proud that starting today, people can let us know if they see posts on Instagram they believe may be false.”

This is certainly an interesting move by IG. The company has plans to roll out the tool to all regions at the end of August. Which will arrive following the launch in the United States. This move comes a few days afterword came down that you can now create your augmented reality filters.

It’s been a busy month for Instagram as they continue to evolve with the aim of creating a unique experience. Stay tuned for more from Instagram, including updates, upgrades, and new features.  While you’re at it, be sure to follow us on Instagram if you haven’t already done so!
