Mayer Hawthorne – The Game

It’s never a bad day around here when we get some new music from Mayer Hawthorne. Fresh off the release of the latest Tuxedo album with Jake One, Mr. Hawthorne is back at it yet again. Today he serves up a brand new track called “The Game.” The track puts an official end to his three-year hiatus from releasing solo music.

No word if “The Game” is the beginning of something bigger, but we sure do hope so. The track is pushed by these incredible horn sections which are seamlessly paired with some smooth basslines and crisp drum work. The combination is so smooth it deserves another spin. The track comes with a unique set of visuals as well. The Princess Bride inspires the clip, which was directed by Alexis Sepkovic and Pele Kudren. Mayer spoke about the video recently. He joked: “In order to successfully shoot this video, I spent the last few years developing an immunity to iocane powder.” He went on to add, “Huge shout out to Pele and co. for taking my preposterous idea and making it come to life. Rest in peace, William Goldman.”

Check out the funky, contagious new offering in the stream below and be sure to keep it locked for more new music coming very soon. If you haven’t yet checked out ‘Tuxedo III,’ it’s certainly one worth adding to the rotation.
