More Options | Adobe’s New App Brings Photoshop to Phone Cameras

The good folks over at Adobe are back, and they are bringing something new to our camera phones. They just announced a new app that will allow users to utilize select Photoshop editing features directly through a smartphone’s camera. The app is called Photoshop Camera, and it marks a step for Adobe towards creating something for a wider audience.

Adobe CTO Abhay Parasnis spoke about the app to Fast Company. Abhay stated: “The core genesis was: Can we unleash creativity for everyone, not just professionals?” He added, “If we’re going to do it, the camera is the perfect app because capture is the new creative tool.”

The app is marketed as an easy way to create and share creative images. It features intelligent camera technology called Adobe Sensei, which helps enhance photo quality. Once the system recognizes what’s going on in the photo, Photoshop Camera will display a variety of different effects to help enhance the photo quality. Users can also apply separate effects to different areas. Photoshop Camera will even allow users to export their creations as Photoshop .PSD files for further editing. Better yet, the image processing occurs offline, which means Adobe doesn’t collect photos taken with the app.

However, only phones with at least iOS 12 or Android 9 will be powerful enough to operate the app. Interested in finding out more? Head over to Adobe’s website to do so. The app will eventually launch for free, arriving sometime in 2020. As of now, the app is available as a preview for select users.

Photoshop Camera will offer a selection of custom editing “lenses” designed by artists, including Billie Eilish. Keep it locked with The Culture Curators for much more from Adobe coming soon.
