Old Becomes New | The Filux Art Laboratory

There is most certainly art in architecture. While we’ve seen plenty of unique and modern examples of architecture, we’ve seen nothing quite like the Filux Art Laboratory. This unique building can be found in the city of Merida. The city features rich colonial heritage, and it’s evolved into the cultural heart of the Yucatán Peninsula. The Filux Art Laboratory was created by Workshop architects, designed for the International Festival of Lights Mexico. The structure was built as an event space, which was formerly a colonial house.

Many of the structure’s historic features have been left untouched, offering a nostalgic aesthetic that is eye-catching. These details provide an antique backdrop for contemporary exhibitions and art pieces. The building’s central terrace is host to intricate lattice around the exterior. This casts light and shadows on the building creating a light exhibit of its own. The Filux Art Laboratory is a beautiful blend of old and new, offering exceptional attention to detail while showcasing an array of incredible modern art.

Take a closer look at this unique design in the images below and find out more about the Filux Art Laboratory from Workshop Diseño y Construcción. While you’re at it, be sure to keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more from the realm of art and architecture coming very soon.
