On Display! Gagosian Will Showcase Art By Damien Hirst & Simon Hantaï

Gagosian is slated to launch two new exhibitions at its 541 West 24th Street and 980 Madison Avenue locations. The first serves as a continuation of a long partnership with British artist Damien Hirst, while the second will feature the works of Hungarian artist Simon Hantaï. Gagosian revisits Hirst’s “Forgiving and Forgetting” series, which recently took over the gallery’s Rome location.

The exhibit was made in conjunction with Archaeology Now, featuring paintings and sculptures from a fictitious shipwreck off the coast of East Africa. The display finds Hirst examining cultural origin and perceptions of relative status and value.

The second exhibition comes through collaboration with the Estate of Simon Hantaï. The Gagosian plans to highlight the artist’s “Les blancs de la couleur, la couleur du blanc” series. Known for a process known as “folding,” Hantaï would crumple and knot canvas, then proceed to paint over them uniformly. The combination results in a unique blend of abstract details between pigment and ground.

“Forgiving and Forgetting” will be on view at the 541 West 24th Street location from January 20th to February 26th. The second, “Les blancs de la couleur, la couleur du blanc” exhibits at the 980 Madison Avenue location from. January 27th to March 5th.

Find out more from the Gagosian and make your plans accordingly. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more art news, exhibitions, and releases coming very soon.
