Rides With History | Dalai Lama’s 1966 Land Rover Series IIA SUV

There is denying the iconic and legendary status that the Land Rover Series II has garnered over the years. We’ve seen plenty of custom Series II’s, as well as a few beautifully restored models. Today we get a look at a Series IIA with a historical legacy. The Dalai Lama’s 1966 Land Rover Series IIA SUV is getting ready to hit the auction block soon. This eye-catching machine provides the opportunity to own something quite legendary.

This stunning machine was delivered to Nepal in 1966. His Holiness’ brother Tenzin Cheogyal primarily drove the vehicle and spent its time on the rough roads of the Dharamsala region of India. Cheogyal continued to maintain the vehicle until 2005 when it was donated to the Dalai Lama Foundation in Palo Alto, California. The move was made in order to raise funds for Tibetan refugees.

It’s since been completely restored, though it comes with the original seats, interior parts, and tires. The Land Rover Series II also comes with extensive documentation proving its provenance. This machine is not only eye-catching but historically significant and in outstanding condition.

Take a look at this eye-catching classic in the images below and head over to RM Sotheby’s to find out more immediately. Keep it locked with us here at The Culture Curators for more classic vehicles coming soon.
