When it comes to classic cold-weather beverages, there is nothing more iconic than a good hot chocolate. More than just a rich, flavorful way to start the day, it’s a great way to warm your soul. With cooler days ahead, today we get a look at a cold-weather drink recipe that takes the classic hot chocolate up a notch, this one known as the Bourbon Hot Chocolate.
The recipe comes from Katie Tobin, bar manager at New Riff Distilling. Simple and fairly straightforward, the recipe calls for a generous blend of New Riff Kentucky Straight Bourbon, bourbon cream, water, dark chocolate fudge dessert topping, Luxardo cherry juice, cherry bitters, and Aztec chocolate bitters. This combination comes together for a flavorful blend that you will undoubtedly come back for more of. Rich, smooth, potent, warm, and perfect for any cool evening, this recipe is certainly one we’ll add to our favorites.

Bourbon Hot Chocolate

1 oz New Riff Kentucky Straight Bourbon
1.5 oz bourbon cream*
1 oz water
1.5 oz dark chocolate fudge dessert topping
0.5 oz Luxardo cherry juice
1-2 dashes of cherry bitters
1-2 dashes of Aztec chocolate bitters
Add all ingredients except the bourbon cream to a mug. Microwave for 1 minute, stir, microwave for another 30 seconds to 1 minute. Add bourbon cream and garnish with chocolate covered cherries and marshmallows.
*Bourbon Cream
Combine 1-1/2 cups evaporated milk (1-12 ounce can), 1 cup Bourbon, 2/3 cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1⁄2 teaspoon instant coffee and a large mason jar. Secure lid on tight and shake until combined. Store in the fridge.
