Sonos is cutting the cord! Soon Sonos will be releasing a Bluetooth-enabled portable speaker in the near future. This news comes according to its product filing with the FCC. The model dubbed the S17 is sure to be a game-changer. The product’s described as “a high-performance wireless speaker and part of the Sonos sound system.
The device’s primary function will be for streaming with Wi-Fi, but also features Bluetooth audio streaming and Bluetooth Low Energy, used for simplified setup.” Bluetooth audio playback will be a first for the brand, which has previously taken shots at the function. The portable speaker will also bost an ethernet jack as per all Sonos models, as well as new USB-C connectivity. The S17 features a more rounded aesthetic with a taller and wider design than the company’s Sonos One.
However, the S17 is to feature the same controls on top. The S17 will also have hands-free voice control as well as Apple AirPlay 2 support. The device is charged via a base station, as well as USB-C, and can only be controlled via the Sonos App when in Wi-Fi mode. The company will also introduce a new function called Auto Trueplay. Auto Trueplay automatically adjusts the sound output when the speaker detects that it was moved. Moving the device will recalibrate the speakers for a better listening experience.
