Speed & Style! Motocross-Meets-Art In Stone Island’s “Annex” Installation

The creative minds over at Stone Island are back. The brand recently revealed a multidisciplinary, motocross-meets-art installation at the Institute of Contemporary Art during Miami Art Week. Titled “ANNEX,” the installation doubled as an experience curated by Katja Horvat and a film by director Thibaut Grevet.

The activation presented a group artwork exhibition on an actual motocross track on the outskirts of Miami while motocross riders performed the circuit while guests viewed each piece. Katja Horvat released a statement regarding the installation. It reads: “By placing art onto the motocross track, we display pieces in an environment that is not traditionally a place for high art,” adding, “In doing so, we highlight the influence of each of the works with a shift from aesthetic to thought.” She went further to say, “Re-contextualization in the outdoor environment brings an additional conversation to each piece.”

Horvat continued, “While the juxtaposition at the track creates contrast, the objects are presented to co-exist with the place rather than disrupt it. The immersion in a live environment active with moto riders brings functionality to the artworks and introduces a broader narrative to both the track and the art.”

“ANNEX” features artists Agathe Snow, Alicia Mersy, Ana Kraš, Bill Kouligas, Frank Dorrey, ILL Studio, Jessy Nite, Leo Gabin, Lucien Smith, Mario Ayala, Soft Baroque, Yngve Holen, and 4WorthDoing. Take a look at the film below and head over to Stone Island for more information. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more art and art news!
