Video games are coming to real life! For gamers of all ages, the Atari name is a staple in the industry. Today the legendary game company is back in the news, announcing a new initiative to build hotels themed around the brand. The video game-inspired hotels are slated to arrive in several locations across the United States. The properties will be designed by GSD Group’s Shelly Murphy and partner Napoleon Smith III.
The first of the hotels are set to arrive in Phoenix, AZ, later this year. Guests will be treated to virtual reality and augmented reality experiences, while venues at certain hotels will accommodate esports events. Other Atari Hotels are planned for Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco, and San Jose. While Atari pioneered the game console industry, these days, they own and manager game franchises, like Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, RollerCoaster Tycoon, and, of course, Pong.
GSD Group Managing Partner, Napoleon Smith III, spoke about the hotels and the concept behind the designs. He stated: “When creating this brand-new hotel concept, we knew that Atari would be the perfect way to give guests the ‘nostalgic and retro meets modern’ look and feel we were going for. Let’s face it, how cool will it be to stay inside an Atari?!”
