Tech Meets Health | Google & Apple Creating COVID-19 Tracking System

The world is looking for ways to contribute to the fight against the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The tech world is getting in on the action, taking the fight to a whole new level. Today the word comes down that Google and Apple have come together to develop a COVID-19 tracking system. The platform is a comprehensive contact-tracking system that aims to track the outspread within communities.

The system will work in tandem with existing public health apps on both Android and iOS devices. The first push will arrive as an application programming interface allowing for interoperability between the two mobile operating systems. The second stage of the release will include a “broader” Bluetooth-based contact-tracing. This will build the feature directly into both Android and iOS. The two companies released a statement about the system. It reads: “All of us at Apple and Google believe there has never been a more important moment to work together to solve one of the world’s most pressing problems.” The statement goes on to add, “Through close cooperation and collaboration with developers, governments, and public health providers, we hope to harness the power of technology to help countries around the world slow the spread of COVID-19 and accelerate the return of everyday life.”

While there is no official date from either Google or Apple, this is just one of many ways tech is aiding in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Stay tuned with The Culture Curators for more tech and health news coming very soon.
